On June 17, U.S. President Trump signed into law the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020. The Act holds accountable perpetrators of human rights violations and abuses such as the systematic use of indoctrination camps, forced labor, and intrusive surveillance to eradicate the ethnic identity and religious beliefs of Uyghurs and other minority nationalities in the People’s Republic of China. Respect for human rights is one of the many #sharedvalues that form the foundation of the U.S.-Taiwan friendship.
